An Economy of world citizens
The world is tilting. The new economy is a world in which self-management and self-regulation are highly respected. An economy in which capital distribution is approached differently and an economy of world citizens. Sharing ownership of the business is luckily becoming increasingly common and demanded from our generation.
In order to create involvement of employees and investors as well as to empower people, new forms of organization are needed, new forms of cooperation, new forms of (joint) control and new forms of capital allocation.
We are building a community that wants to contribute to the new economy in a socially responsible manner. With our new employee participation platform Stem, this can be achieved.
What is Stem?
Stem is a blockchain platform for trading private stock by easily sharing ownership of a company. Something that has clearly been proven to be necessary if one wants to bring back commitment, equal chances and the balance of capital division.
The French professor Thomas Pikkety has shown the widening gap of capital between the upper- and middle class. He testifies that this is caused due to the return on capital being higher than the economic growth of a nation. Thus, the wealthy get wealthier and the less fortunate have to struggle to increase their wealth. One of the few ways to climb up the wealth ladder is to acquire assets/capital that are able to increase in value by interest and/or dividend. Stem offers a new and easy way for everybody to acquire exactly this. It is focused on spreading the economic gains and giving back a fair chance to every individual, regardless of initial capital possessions. Stem does this by making it incredibly easy to share the growth of the company one works for.
Why Stem was developed (history)
Stem was born out of a necessity. Since the start of a new software development company, called Foryard the main focus of the founders, Niek and Quintus, was to change companie cultures towards more autonomy and the personal responsibility of every employee. They build Foryard by the example of the social models of SEMCO (by Ricardo Semler, Brasil). A company that lives and breaths like a true organism based on the values of love, trust, and transparency. A company where employees themselves decide how to work, when and where to work, and what to earn by it. It has been proven that the more autonomy employees have, the bigger the chance that they do something they enjoy, which increases the chance of them to be very good at it. This, in turn, can cause the company to flourish emotionally as well as financially. The last piece needed to close this cycle was to assure that everyone can co-own the company. This should give the right balance for every individual to be a responsible and happy employee.
The challenge and solution:
In order to complete the cycle, Foryard needed a way to share equity amongst employees. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. Most solutions are either expensive or extremely cumbersome. They always include both accountants/ lawyers and notaries. Eventually together with the Dutch law firm “Bruggink en Van der Velden” we found a way to share economic value of the company without needing all these cumbersome institutions. Bruggink en Van der Velden initiated the option to sell the economic rights on value and dividend of stock. Combined with Foryard’s knowledge of the BlockChain mechanics and theory there came an idea to solve the stock sharing puzzle at the beginning of 2017. Foryard developed a Blockchain platform that can legally transfer ownership of economic rights on shares as well as optionally sharing the voting rights that goes along with it. This new platform is Stem.
Our Mission with Stem:
Foryard’s mission is to solve societal problems using technology and entrepreneurship. The societal problem of unequal capital spread is so big that even the United Nations have included it in their 17 Sustainable Development Goals to be reached by 2030. This is why Foryard eventually made Stem available to the public. With Stem we want to change this financial world, help to tilt it, and foster the chances of all those individuals who help to keep our society moving. Belief in the future, believe in everybody a shareholder.
